Artist Statement
A N G E L A M A R I A I S A Z A
artista , arquitecta. Colombia
My work as an artist, emerges from a close observation and my admiration of nature. Colors, forms, textures of trees, flowers, shrubs and landscapes in their natural state have always been the inspiration to express the beauty of life.
Generally I paint the natural world that surrounds me where I live in Bogotá, but also the places that I visit. I paint directly on the site, au plein air, or, I make a sketch or a mental impression of what catches my attention and develop the idea in my studio. I use the art techniques of watercolor, oil, and particularly batik to create my work and to share part of my feeling and love for Creation with others.
The silence of these works reflect not only value in its artistic interpretation, but they also express and create the feeling and consciousness that conservation of endangered natural environments is necessary.
Through my work I have had the opportunity to take and show the Andean and tropical flora of Colombia, my country, abroad. I have had exhibits in Colombia and in the United States.
EDUCATION
A.A. Fine Arts at Marymount University, Washington D.C.* Zerega Art Medal
B.S Architecture at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. USA
Additionally studied architecture in London, at the Polithecnic of Central London ,in Vicenza, Italy, and at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá.
I have taken courses in painting and watercolor from artists Angel Loochkart, FredaSargent(Cooperartes), Alfredo Lleras, Song Xin-Ru, and Carlos Lersundy.
